A Long Beach Man was struck and killed by a car early Thursday morning as he was walking north on Long Beach Boulevard.

According to Lt. Eric Cregeen of the Long Beach Police Department, 57-year-old Ronald Tisi was walking north along Long Beach Boulevard, crossing at the intersection of East Park Avenue with a friend at about 5:24 a.m. Police said Tisi was struck by a black 2008 Toyota Corolla that was travelling eastbound in the middle lane, and was thrown into the air and struck the ground.

Police said that the driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, pulled over and remained at the scene until police officers arrived.

Tisi was transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 6:23 a.m.

Cregeen said that police are investigating the incident, and the department established a crime scene and notified Nassau County Highway and Crime Scene units after Tisi was struck.

“There was no criminality involved,” Cregeen said. “We believe that it was a tragic accident.”
