Rockville Centre hosted another successful Kids’ Fest Open House celebration on Sept. 17 at the John A. Anderson Recreation Center. Hundreds of children came to meet with representatives of local services and organizations for both a fun and informative time.

Outside, members from different branches of law enforcement came to show off some of their equipment and provide safety information and tips to the kids. The Rockville Centre Fire Department had one of its trucks on display for children to check out. Popular highlights included the MTA Police’s K-9 unit, an armored vehicle, and a horse from the Nassau County Police’s mounted unit. In an impressive display, the Nassau County Police landed one of their helicopters in the middle of the recreation center’s parking lot, much to the children’s delight.

Inside the center, local organizations had tables with various activities for the children to engage with. After school program Bricks 4 Kidz featured electronic LEGO play sets to interact with. Museum of the Village of Rockville Centre had antique toys for kids to put their hands on. Cooking class, Kids in the Kitchen, let children put together their own smores. Boy Scout Bobby Pedersen sold baked goods to support his Eagle Scout Project of renovating the Mr. B Memorial Garden. Other tables included the Madison Theatre at Molloy College, Boy and Cub Scout Pack 163, Crossfit Kids and more.

“The kids love it, we come every year,” said resident Teresa McCarthy. “Especially all the hands-on activities.”
