Robbery attempt foiled by N. Merrick bakery employees

Two employees of a North Merrick bakery foiled a robbery attempt by a masked man wielding a knife at around 3 p.m. last Friday, according to Nassau County police.

Officials said the man entered Vincent’s Bakery, at 1169 Merrick Ave., and demanded cash of an employee, who refused. A second employee, who came from the back kitchen, then knocked the knife out of the man’s hand, and the would-be robber ran out of the store, headed south on Merrick Avenue and then east on Jerusalem Avenue.

No injuries were reported.

The man was described as white, 5-foot-11, about 150 pounds, wearing a gray hooded shirt, blue jeans and a black bandana over his face.
