Two people were killed when the BMW they were in, headed south on Sheridan Boulevard in Inwood, collided with a garbage truck that was making its way west on Bayview Avenue at 4:15 a.m. last Saturday, police said.

They were identified on Dec. 17 as Gbolahan Egberongbe, 20, and his 27-year-old passenger, Devon Grenada, both from Far Rockaway.

Both vehicles became engulfed in flames, and the Inwood Fire Department extinguished the fire. The two people in the BMW were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck, which belonged to D Daniels Contracting, an Inwood-based company, was taken to a local hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Utility poles were damaged in the crash, and approximately 300 PSEG-LI customers lost power temporarily as a result. Police said that an investigation was continuing.
