An East Fulton Street woman was shot in the hand last week following an altercation with another woman that led Long Beach police all the way to Manhattan as they searched for the suspect.

Police said Rajolyne Delacruz allegedly fired a loaded handgun at a woman on Aug. 4 at approximately 9:45 p.m. while she was standing in front of a home on the 200 block of East Fulton Street. The bullet struck the 21-year-old victim in the hand, who was rushed to Long Beach Medical Center for treatment.

Police did not release the victim's name or say how the exchange began. Delacruz fled the scene in what detectives said was an attempt to evade police.

Long Beach detectives immediately began an investigation into the shooting, and said that Delacruz fled to Harlem in order to hide.

Detectives worked with the New York City Police Department as they searched for Delacruz, who was ultimately arrested on Aug. 6 by Det. Michael Bulik on Lexington Avenue and 115th St. at around 7 p.m.

Delacruz was transported back to Long Beach and charged with second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree criminal use of a firearm.

She was arraigned in Long Beach City Court on Aug. 9.

“We moved quickly with this investigation to apprehend this defendant,” Det. Lt. James Canner, commanding officer of the Detective Division, said in a statement. “We are very fortunate that no one else was hurt.”
