Smart Meters to be removed

The mayor said that the village would be removing the Smart Meters, and that they had already been covered and the old meters reinstalled. He was unsure when the Smart Meters would actually be removed.

“[The meters] are not user-friendly, and there are technical issues,” Murray said. “I don’t like Pay and Display. I never did. That was going to be changed, but they didn’t do it yet. And I’ve been listening to people’s concerns since the day they went in, and I’ve had enough.”

He explained that the meters are not going away forever — but when they return, they will be improved. Newer technology, such as an application allowing users to pay using iPhones, will be implemented, and a panel of residents will be consulted before installation to ensure the user-friendliness of the software.

“We will use them in another application some way,” Murray said. “They may be put to use again, but not until [Parkeon and Mastercard] have it right. And we will never go back to Pay and Display. If the right software was in there and it was user-friendly, we would’ve had a better chance.”
