Snowfall snarls traffic

Snow showers today, then cold and sunny on Saturday

Posted

It was slow going for rush hour drivers this morning as snow fell in the New York City and Long Island areas, making the roads slippery and icy.

Wind gusts were blowing up to 50 miles per hour in some spots, according to weather.com.
Snow showers could leave 1 to 2 inches of wet snow on the ground.
Saturday is expected to be sunny and cold, with temperatures in the low 20s.

Actual temperatures have been low enough to slow the operation of some of the trains in the area. On the Long Island Rail Road branches, about half experienced delays during the morning rush.

As of mid morning, buses are replacing eastbound and westbound trains between Island Park and Long Beach as LIRR personnel make repairs to the Reynolds Channel Bridge. This was a scheduled change, unrelated to the current weather conditions.
