South shore hit with 7 inches of snow

Trains on weekend schedule, LIE to open Friday morning

The South Shore of Long Island was hit with about 7 inches of snow that fell mostly overnight. Wind conditions can make drifts up to a foot.

Light snow was still falling on Friday and was expected to stop during the day.

The LIRR is on a weekend schedule with scattered delays. No service on the West Hempstead and Greenport branches as of 7 a.m. Friday.

The Long Island Expressway is closed until 8 a.m., although vehicles were seen driving on it before that.

The weather service reports minor coastal flooding.

PSEG, who took over from LIPA on Jan. 1, reports a handful of outages across Long Island, including Valley Stream and Garden City.
