Police investigate wrong-way two-car crash in Lawrence

One man seriously injured on Nassau Expressway

Police are investigating a two-car wrong way collision as a man, 55, driving a 2003 Nissan Sentra heading north in the southbound side of the Nassau Expressway (Route 878) crashed into a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner at 2:37 a.m. on April 25.

The driver of the Nissan was taken by police ambulance to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and his injuries were considered serious. The 37-year-old man in the Toyota was treated and released at the hospital.

According to police, the crash occurred in the vicinity of Rock Hall Road. The incident closed the expressway to the Atlantic Beach until the early afternoon on Friday.

Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety inspections.
