The Herald could not identify a website for New York Water Solutions, but an online legal notice said the company was incorporated on Aug. 12, 2013, and is located on 181 East Avenue in Freeport. “Bottom line is it’s a private company looking to make some money,” said Murray. “We’re also worried that the flier may convince homeowners to purchase an unneeded water filtration system.”

Hudes said he could understand how such a notice might cast doubt in residents about the quality of their water. “The reality is, there is no reason to have those doubts,” he said. “Sales methods such as this are not fair to our community and can create nothing but confusion and anxiety for our residents.”

Murray added that the majority of the fliers appeared to be spreading in a “triangular pattern” throughout East Meadow, and that town officials wanted to get the word out before they popped up in other communities.

The press conference concluded with Murray, Hudes and Borrelli having a toast of water taken from Borrelli’s home, as an indication that it is safe and clean to drink.
