The Long Beach International Film Festival will celebrate its 4th anniversary this year with a packed lineup of independent and studio films from around the globe. The festival is scheduled to take place September 24 through 27 in Long Beach and nearby Rockville Centre and will screen an international slate of over 50 films — including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, animated and student films — that will compete for a series of Jury, Festival Honors and Audience Awards.

The festival kicks off on August 7 with “Shorts on the Beach,” a free movie night that will feature a new element this year — “Taste on the Beach.” Area restaurants, wineries and craft breweries will come together to provide a sampling of new or favorite dishes with Steve Carl of Carlyle on the Green hosting the event.

Among the entries in this years shorts event will be Director Brooke Wagstaff’s animated film and Award-winning Vimeo Staff Pick “Missing U,” an animated tale about the letter “I” and her perilous adventure in search of her missing “U.” Long Island Director Peter Frizalone’s HBO Project Greenlight Top 200 “Mommy” will also be making its world premiere.

“What’s better than bringing films, food, drinks and music together on the beach?” asked LBIFF cofounder Ingrid Dodd in a statement.

Others films include Director Chris Jordan-Bloch’s environmental documentary “Dryden- The Small Town That Changed the Fracking Game,” Director/Producer Stephanie Donnelly’s narrative comedy film “The Cannoli” where a Long Island family dinner turns tragic and a choice must be made between dessert and family; Director Sarah Menzies’ San Diego Surf Film Festival Best Short winning documentary “Catch It,” which follows Léa Brassy as her nomadic lifestyle takes a pause and she finds serenity in the Arctic surf of Northern Norway; and the world premiere of Croatian Director Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović’s film “Eye for an Eye,” in which child’s play turns into a showdown of imagination and discipline.

Pre-sale tickets for the “Taste on the Beach” portion of the event are on sale now for $75. Regular admission to the tasting is set at $100 per ticket. The screening is free.
