A Christmas Carol at Adelphi University
Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol,” is brought to life each year in a radio-style staged reading at Adelphi University. The reading, on Sunday, at 2 p.m., is dramatized by Barbara Feld and directed by Adelphi faculty member Dr. Brian Rose. Feld’s famous adaptation of the beloved tale features Rose and 12 student actors. Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and all the other characters everyone knows and loves from this treasured story take on a new dimension in this retelling.
Although the one-hour performance is free, in the spirit of “A Christmas Carol,“ everyone attending is encouraged to bring non-perishable food products. Alpha Psi Omega, the theater honor society, will collect the donations and deliver them to the Mary Brennan INN in Hempstead.
See the performance, Dec. 15, at Adelphi’s Olmsted Theatre, 1 South Ave., Garden City. For more information, call (516) 877-4000 or visit aupac.adelphi.edu.

Christmas with the Nassau Pops
Maestro Louis Panacciulli and his Nassau Pops Symphony Orchestra are ready for a musical holiday as they share some festive tidings at their annual concert on Sunday. From the classic to traditional holiday favorites, the orchestra continues to bring its seasonal cheer to area audiences.
Maestro Panacciulli leads his orchestra in many timeless Christmas favorites, including “O Holy Night,” “Carol of the Bells,” “The Prayer,” “Tintinabulations,” and the ever-popular “Sleigh Ride.”
The Mineola Choral Society, under the direction of Thomas W. Jones, will sing selections from The Messiah and will join the orchestra in such favorites as “The Little Drummer Boy” and “The Birthday of a King.” Vocalists Jack and Ann Cassin also appear, performing “Ten Thousand Joys” and “The Christmas Song.”
And as added musical treat, the spirit of the season will certainly fill the air when the Nassau Pops performs the beautiful piece, “Stile Nacht,” which features cellist Lougene Nappo-Kennedy.
“Time and again audience members have said they don’t really feel the Christmas season begins until they come to this concert and they all get to participate during the popular sing-a-long of favorite Christmas carols, which is climaxed with the moving Hallelujah Chorus,” Maestro Panaccuilli said.
Enjoy the holiday tunes, Dec. 15, 3 p.m., at Chaminade High School. Admission is free. Audience members are asked to contribute an unwrapped children’s toy to donate to Toys for Tots. Chaminade High School, 340 Jackson Ave., Mineola. For information, call (516) 565-0646.
