A West Hempstead man was arrested Tuesday evening after he pulled a gun on members of the Franklin Square Munson Fire Department when they knocked on his door looking for donations.

The incident occurred on July 19 at 8:30 p.m. and was part of the fire department’s annual door-to-door fundraising effort.

According to Nassau County police, the homeowner, Carl Semencic, 65, of 527 Dogwood Avenue, came to the door holding a black handgun in his left hand and exited his house. He then tapped on the front glass door with the gun, pointing to a sign that read “Do Not Knock. No Peddlers” and told the volunteer to “go away”. The firefighter backed away and notified police.

Shortly after, officers spoke with Semencic and placed him under arrest without incident.

Semencic is charged with Menacing and possession of a dangerous weapon. He was issued a desk appearance ticket to respond on Thursday, August 11 in First District Court in Hempstead.
