The Nassau County Marine Bureau rescued two swimmers on Monday, July 4, after a boat was found drifting in the Sloop Channel by marker eight in Wantagh, police said.

While on a routine patrol, Marine Bureau Six observed a 9-foot Zodiac boat in distress and drifting in a swift current due to engine trouble. Officers found two swimmers, who were originally on board a 33-foot Carver boat, anchored a quarter mile east, struggling to reach the Zodiac.

Police secured the two swimmers and the operator of the Zodiac aboard Marine Six and placed the boat in stern tow. Neither swimmer had any injuries other than exhaustion and refused medical attention. No other injuries were reported.
