The Long Island Working Families Party voted last week to issue an early endorsement for Long Beach City Councilman Anthony Eramo in his bid for re-election this November. It was the party’s first political endorsement in the state.

“Anthony Eramo has been a champion for working and middle-class families in Long Beach. We are proud to support such a committed and dedicated public servant,” New York State WFP Co-chair Robert Master said in a statement. “Anthony’s re-election will be a top priority for the Working Families Party on Long Island.”

Eramo, a Democrat who was first elected to the council in 2013, is a member of the Working Families Party and chief steward of the Communications Workers of America Local 1106. He said he was encouraged by the early endorsement.

“I think they wanted to send a message that I’m their guy and that I work to protect the working men and women of my community,” said Eramo, a field technician for Verizon. “I am honored to have the first endorsement of the Working Families Party in New York state. The Working Families Party represents the interests of the men and women who make up the backbone of our communities. I thank the WFP for their support and look forward to working with them to build an economy that works for all Long Beach residents.”

“Throughout his years of activism in his union and his first term as a Long Beach City Councilman, Anthony Eramo has proven to be a strong voice for working families, not just in the City of Long Beach, but for families across the island,” said Long Island WFP Leader and 1199 SEIU Political Director Michele Lynch.
