Angel Gabriel, former Rockville Centre teacher, dies at 78

Angel Gabriel died on June 12 from complications of Alzheimer’s while surrounded by family and friends at his Melbourne, Fla. home. He was 78.

Born in Puerto Rico, Gabriel lived on Long Island for 45 years and was an active parishioner, lector and driver at Saint Agnes Cathedral in Rockville Centre.

He worked for Nassau County public schools for 35 years and is fondly remembered by the community of Floyd B. Watson Elementary School, where he dedicated many years of his career. He spent the last 14 years split living between Cape Coral and Melbourne, Fla.

Gabriel will be lovingly remembered by his spouse of 56 years, Carmen. He is also survived by his four sons: Miguel, Juan, Jose and Raul Gabriel; and his 10 grandchildren: Renee, Marissa, Paul, Chelsea, Jessica, Isabella, Luke, Iliana, Rachel and Colin.

A funeral Mass was scheduled for June 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Palm Bay. Those who so desire may make donations in memory of Gabriel to the Brevard Alzheimer’s Foundation Inc. at 4676 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, Fla. 32935.
