Belmont public comment period extended

The public comment period for the Belmont arena project has been extended to Aug. 1, Empire State Development officials announced Tuesday, after they noticed “two minor clerical errors” in their 8,000 page final environmental impact statement.

According to Jack Sterne, a spokesman for the ESD, the statement, which was adopted on July 8, omitted a public hearing transcript and included an outdated rendering of the arena.

He said that a revised report was posted on the ESD website, at www.esd.ny.gov, and added that the elongated public comment period would “have no impact on milestones such as the opening of the arena,” which is scheduled to open in time for the Islanders’ 2020 – 21 season.
