Brooklyn man arrested for robbing and assaulting Chinese food deliverers

Ayan James, an 18-year-old from Brooklyn, was recently arrested for robbing and assaulting Chinese food deliverers in Valley Stream and West Hempstead in August.

According to Nassau County Police, James and a 16-year-old colleague robbed and assaulted Chinese food deliverers. On Aug. 19, police report, James ordered Chinese food to be delivered to Laurel Drive in West Hempstead. When the 22-year-old male delivery driver arrived, he was dragged from his vehicle by the Jame s and the 16-year-old. The two individuals then entered the delivery man’s vehicle and fled the scene. The victim suffered abrasions to his knees and elbows and was treated at scene by a Nassau County Police Department Medic.

Then, police said, on Aug. 20, James called in an order for Chinese food to be delivered to Arkansas Drive in Valley Stream. When a 42 year-old female delivery driver arrived, she was assaulted by James, the 16-year-old and another unknown suspect. During the assault, the suspects stole her car keys, wallet and money. Two of the suspects then entered the victim’s vehicle and struck the victim with her car. The driver suffered multiple abrasions and swelling. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment and evaluation.

James is charged with five counts of second-degree robbery, two counts of third-degree robbery, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and one-count of second-degree assault. He was arraigned at the Nassau County Court in Mineola on Feb. 19.
