Brownies go pink for breast cancer

On Oct. 5, 20 second-graders from the Seaford Brownie Girl Scout Troop 3418 received and sported pink hair extensions from D’Salon in Wantagh to raise money for breast cancer awareness month which is all of October. D’Salon donated all of the money received for the hair extensions to help the fight against breast cancer.

A group photo of the Troop was posted on social media, redirecting viewers to the Susan G. Komen Foundation website to raise money for the organization. The posts that the parents shared on social media explained what the girls’s mission was and asked others to donate. The posts also informed viewers that in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Banks of America will be matching donations made by Oct. 31. 

Scouts who participated included: Megan Bianca, Emerson Hutchinson, Angelica Fuina, Jocelyn Conway, Charlotte Clarke, Isabella Adams, Kaitlyn Whitton, Chloe Carter, Maeve Carloni, Kenzie Drew, Emmeline Hartmann, Grace Martino, Giuliana Leahy, Ruby Tischler, Sofia Cadena, Carina Iovino, Rosalie Fico, Katerina Kambouris, Michaela Diasparra and Skyler Kurz.

Susan G. Komen is the largest breast organization in the United States that focuses on patient navigation and advocacy. It provides resources for breast cancer patients to better understand the American medical system. The foundation has also funded research to help find the causes and treatments of breast cancer.
