Police reported the arrest of an Oceanside man on Nov. 3 for assaulting a woman and taking her keys.

Law enforcement officials reported that while responding to a disturbance on 4th Street in Oceanside, a 33-year-old woman told them that Filippo Califano, 55, of Oceanside had assaulted her two days prior. According to police, Califano threw her to the ground, choked her and forced her keys from her hand.

Following the victim’s report, Califano was located and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with second-degree robbery, second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation, all felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor harassment and filing a false report.

Califano was arraigned on Nov. 4 at the First District Court in Hempstead. He is scheduled to appear at a Minneola courthouse on Nov. 8 for a proceeding related to the felony charges.

The incident occurred while Califano was out on bail for nearly 200 counts of drug and related charges for which he was arrested in September, 2016. He is currently awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to two of the charges, including child endangerment according to court documents. His next appearance at the Nassau County Court related to those charges is set for Dec. 14.
