Police: Elmont man arrested after he allegedly stabs mother

Nassau Police arrested an Elmont man for an assault that also took place in Elmont on Wednesday at 1:50 p.m.

According to police, the defendant, Ivan F. Colon, 42, of Hoeffner Avenue, was involved in a verbal argument with his 65 year old mother. As the argument became more heated, Colon picked up two silver metal kitchen knives and stabbed his mother seven times in the neck, arms, and both hands, causing lacerations.  

After stabbing her, Colon then ran out of the house. Fifth Precinct officers found him in the rear lot of Target Department Store at 1730 Hempstead Turnpike, where he was placed into police custody. Colon's mother was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and treated for severe lacerations, where she was listed in stable condition. 

Colon is charged with first degree assault, second degree assault, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
