EMFD teaches fire prevention at Barnum Woods

Members of the East Meadow Fire Department crawled into the lunchroom at Barnum Woods Elementary School in East Meadow to demonstrate how firefighters excavate a house on fire in search of anyone who may be trapped inside. The presentation was one of many at the school’s annual fire prevention program on Oct. 12.

EMFD Ex-Captain Marty Sisca taught children key fire prevention tips, such as designating a family meeting place outside of their home in the case of a fire. Students also learned how to exit their room through their window if the heat is too close to their door.

The fire department also held its open house last weekend for families to see what it has to offer and children to walk trough a fire simulator and meet Smokey the Bear.
