‘Fashion-forward’ seniors strut on the runway

Sandels Center puts on fashion show and luncheon

“I was very nervous, of course,” Barbara Bohan said, speaking about her debut as a fashion model at the Sandel Senior Center’s Fall Fashion Show and Luncheon on Oct. 6. “But it was actually a lot of fun.”

Six stylish ladies and two suave gentlemen strutted up and down the red carpet, sporting trendy autumn looks. They each marched to the beat of their own song, selected by Nancy Codispoti, deputy director of village senior services, to match the style and the model wearing it.

“Everyone looked really fashion-forward and fantastic,” Codispoti said. “I think what [the seniors] enjoy the most is calling their granddaughter and getting to say, ‘I was in a fashion show today,’ or ‘I was at one.’ They want to be relevant and be able to stay current in conversations with their children and grandchildren.”

The clothes were selected by the show’s announcer, Jo Gallagher, a member of the Sandel Center. Dress Barn lent clothes for the show, and the models were given a 30 percent discount on the clothes they wore.
