Hate message, imagery found on RVC tree

On April 21, village residents in the RVC Moms private Facebook group reported that someone had painted a swastika and racial slur onto a tree located on Brower Avenue. Group member Randi Getz-Tessitore said the graffiti was removed the same day, once they had notified village officials of it.

Responding to an inquiry on the incident, Rockville Centre police Commissioner Charles Gennario said his department was treating the graffiti as a bias incident and that the Nassau County police Bias Crime Unit was doing an investigation. “If we apprehend the individual, they will face the full extent of the law,” he said.

Tessitore explained that she sought to expose the incident to the public. “Hate cannot be swept under the rug,” she asserted.
