Nearly four months after an attempted robbery at the Convenience Grocery at 15 Bayview Ave. in Inwood where a store employee, a man, 54, was pistol-whipped and suffered a fractured skull, the man who allegedly fired a gunshot and assaulted the clerk was arrested, police said.

On Jan. 26 at 10 a.m., an unshaven black man in his mid-30s, 6-2 with a slim build, wearing a black skullcap, blue sweater and black jacket entered the store armed with a handgun, police said. There was a struggle and the employee was injured, and the man left the scene on foot and headed west on Bayview Avenue. Another employee was not hurt. No money or merchandise was stolen.

After the subsequent investigation by detectives, they learned that Edward Henson, 56, of Lawrence Avenue, Lawrence, was the driver of the vehicle that got Andre Ivory, 45, of Beach Channel Drive, of Far Rockaway, to the store.

Henson was arrested on March 30. He was charged with assault first-degree, two counts of attempted robbery first-degree and robbery second-degree.

Police then learned that Ivory was the man in the store and he was arrested on May 17. He is charged with assault first-degree, criminal use of a firearm first-degree, two counts of attempted robbery first-degree, criminal possession of a weapon second-degree and attempted robbery second-degree.

Henson is in custody. His next court date is June 1. Ivory was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on May 18.
