An Inwood man was arrested by Lynbrook police officers and charged with driving while intoxicated after his car crashed into the Rustic Loft on Sunday night.

According to the Lynbrook Police Department, Bryant Alvarado, 37, was driving his car on Sunrise Highway, west of Atlantic Avenue, when he slammed into the store, at 423 Sunrise Highway, at around 10:30 p.m. The Lynbrook Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The impact of the crash caused the storefront’s glass to break and the front of Alvarado’s car was heavily damaged.

Rustic Loft owner Leo Cacciatore said crews spent Monday repairing the damage to the store and noted that because the furniture is custom-made, products damaged in the crash were solely for display purposes and will be replaced.

“We are still open for business,” Cacciatore said, noting that the store is regularly closed Mondays and would operate under normal hours starting Tuesday. “We boarded the place up and please excuse the appearance while we restore everything.”

The business closes at 7 p.m. on Sundays, so there was no one in the building at the time of the crash. Alvarado sustained unspecified injuries as a result of the incident and was being cared for at Nassau University Medical Center, in East Meadow, as of press time. He is facing charges of driving while intoxicated and consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.
