The Island Park School District’s 2017-18 school budget passed on Tuesday with a vote of 241 to 115.

Within the $39 million spending plan — $528,000, or 1.35 percent, larger than this year’s — the district’s tax levy is estimated to increase by less than $500,000, or roughly half of what is allowed under New York State’s tax cap legislation, while keeping school programming largely unchanged.

Ray Miley, who was running unopposed after Board of Education Trustee Matthew Paccione decided not to run for re-election, was elected to the school board with 296 votes.

The Island Park Public Library's $1.3 million budget also passed, as 262 residents voted for it, and 89 against it. Candidate Michael Schnall, who ran unopposed, was re-elected with 255 votes.
