Island Park's Labor Day fireworks continue tradition

Fireworks by Grucci have graced the skies of dozens of famous locations including the White House, Las Vegas, Saks Fifth Avenue, the World Islands and Burj Khalifa in Dubai and many, many more. But on Labor Day in Island Park this year, they illuminated the night at Masone Beach, keeping with an annual tradition that has continued for nearly three generations.

Roughly 1,000 people attended the celebration, which was headlined by a Fleetwood Mac cover band and featured a barbeque organized by the Island Park Fire Department. Boats sailed nearby and people gathered on both sides of the channel to watch the sky light up with colors from the famouse incendiary displays.

“The Island Park beach season culminated in an outstanding display of fireworks presented by Grucci… This was an all-day preparation,” Island Park Mayor Michael McGinty said after the event.

Grucci began setting up at 8 a.m. that day, and the band prepared by late afternoon. Mcginty said he was struck by the community spirit at the Labor Day celebration, which he said made it that much more special. “There was so much interaction and so much caring,” he said. “It just makes everything worthwhile.”
