Loop Parkway Exit M10 closure set for Thursday

The Meadowbrook Parkway will be closed southbound at Exit M10 to the Loop Parkway on Friday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m in addition to Thursday's work to allow crews to repave the road and install lane markings.

The work was delayed an extra day because Wednesday's storm conditions caused delays for work crews, officials said. The roads were reopened today at 1 p.m. instead of 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and crews were only able to partially complete the planned roadwork.

The State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation today announced that motorists will be directed to a U-turn just east of the Loop Parkway ramp, proceeding to the northbound Meadowbrook Parkway and taking the Loop Parkway ramp, also M10, but northbound from the Meadowbrook Parkway.

“Motorists can use the Loop Parkway and continue to Long Beach and surrounding areas,” the agency said in a news release. “This detour should add approximately seven minutes to their commute.”

Electronic message signs will be in the area to alert and direct motorists. As with most projects, work may be cancelled, postponed or prolonged due to inclement weather.

Motorists are being urged to slow down and safely move over when approaching roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones. To learn more about the Move Over law, visit www.ny.gov/workzonesafety.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in work zones. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver’s license.
