Lynbrook rolls out text alert system

Posted

Lynbrook residents are now able to sign up online to receive text messages about village issues.

According to Village Clerk John Giordano, under the text message system CodeRED, residents who enroll in the system will be notified about natural disasters, bomb threats, chemical spills or other emergencies. “We can notify the entire town in minutes,” Giordano said in a news release.

If an issue only pertains to a certain area of the village, however, only the residents who would be affected would be notified.

Giordano told the Herald that before the new system was put in place, village officials had to call landline phones in the village to inform residents about an issue. He added that as more people use cell phones, the board of trustees felt that it would be better to notify residents via text message.

To receive the alerts, residents have to sign up online at https://public.coderedweb.com/cne/en-US/BF86F77AADF7. Registration is free and confidential.
