Alexis Mantione, a longtime resident of Malverne, recently won first place in the Capital One Bank Business Plan Competition. Mantione enrolled in Hofstra University’s Entrepreneurial Assistance Program in fall 2017, seeking assistance to develop a plan for a new startup business, My Two Ladies. Mantione developed an innovative, adjustable straight knitting needle system that allows faster and easier knitting that relieves stress on the hands, arms and upper body. She submitted applications for two patents for the adjustable knitting needle and method for knitting.

Mantione was awarded $2,500 in the competition, and funds will be used for manufacturing the knitting needles. She is an active member of Malverne’s Basic Stitches Knitting Studio and a supporter of the Junior Achievement Association, an entrepreneurial mentorship program for high school students. She hopes to become the premier knitting needle brand around the world. My Two Ladies knitting needles are available at www.mytwoladiesknitting.com.
