After performing two elevator extrications on March 5 and March 9 at the Wantagh LIRR station, the Wantagh FD were called back on May 7 to rescue 12 passengers stuck on the station's new elevator.

According to the Wantagh FD, they received a call minutes before 7 p.m. about multiple passengers stuck in the LIRR station's elevator. Within 20 to 25 minutes of their arrival, the fire department rescued all 12 passengers by sticking a ladder down the elevator shaft.

There were no injuries reported.

This incident marks the third time the elevator has trapped commuters since its installation on Feb. 26. It is the first elevator in the station's 50-year history and is a part of the LIRR's two-stage $27.8 million MTA-financed platform-replacement project for Wantagh.
