A 26-year-old Amityville man is being charged on multiple felony accounts after fleeing the scene of a single-car crash off the westbound side of the Southern State, according to a press release from New York State Troop L.

Eventz J. Francois, 26, of Amityville, crawled out of his overturned car before running into a residential neighborhood on Foxglove Road in North Merrick on Monday morning at approximately 9:45 a.m., police say.

A state trooper responded to the call and confronted Francois, asking if he was okay. Francois, who had blood splattered down his shirt, struck the state trooper in the eye with a closed fist. Residents apprehended Francois before back-up arrived and detained him.

Francois is being charged with assault on a police officer and second degree assault, both felonies, as well as two counts of fourth degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, second degree obstructing governmental administration and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Francois is scheduled to be arraigned in Nassau County First District Court on March 21, 2017.
