Malverne High School’s photography department had two students win three top honors in the 2019 Photographic Federation of Long Island Youth Showcase Awards.
Senior Victoria Matheos won second place in the architecture category for her photo, “Blue Lines,” and second place in the scapes category for her photo, “Sunflowers.” Morenike Iyageh, who is also a senior, won third place in the scapes category for her photo, “People on a Path.”
The awards ceremony was held at the Ethical Humanist Society in Garden City on April 7, and included the display of photos from student photographers in 14 Long Island school districts. Malverne had many entries, all of which will be judged a second time at the PSA National level for another chance to win. The local PFLI Club sponsors the district for the national contest.
