Playin’ the blues at Sea Breeze Park

Seated on lawn chairs or stretched out on beach towels, audience members were spread out across Sea Breeze Park in Freeport as Long Island blues musician Jim Kolman’s sultry voice mixed with guitar tones and rifts at Freeport’s annual Blues Festival on June 3, held in tandem with the Nautical Mile Festival.

“We come annually,” said Patty Haybor, of Island Park. “The music is the highlight of the festival for me. This is real music.”

This year’s performers included Jim Kolman and Friends, the Estilo Jazz Quartet, Two Finger Jake with special guest Carolyn Harding, the John Judd Band, the Johnny Mac Band and the All-Star Blues Jam.

People of all ages came for the blues festival. Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy was spotted hanging out in the crowd, clapping along to the music while smoking a cigar.

“It’s just a great time — great day. The weather held up. I’m glad to see everyone having a great time,” Kennedy said.
