A Central Islip woman was arrested Saturday night after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a Merrick Hotel.

According to Nassau County police, officers responded to a 911 call for a disturbance at the Gateway Hotel on Sunrise Highway. Officers found Cindy Pereira, 25, at the scene to be likely intoxicated, and uncooperative, and according to police, she punched one of the officers in the head.

A struggle ensued and Pereira was arrested, but continued to resist and kicked officers in the face and neck while she was being placed in the police car, according to police.

The officers Pereira allegedly attacked were treated and released at a local hospital.

Pereira was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. Police said that she would be arraigned “when practical.”
