Police: Shooting at Freeport deli

Deli clerk stable, but still in critical condition

Shots were fired early morning Wednesday at Family Gourmet Deli at 292 North Main St. in Freeport, according to Nassau County Police Department. At around 2:30 a.m., a black male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and a blue hard plastic mask robbed the 24-hour deli, police said. The man is approximately 5’9” to 6’ tall with an average build.

After the man walked into the deli and demanded cash he fired two shots at the cashier fleeing the deli without any money. He was last seen on foot heading northbound on N. Main Street towards Leonard Avenue.

The unidentified 43-year-old victim was shot in the leg and torso. By Thursday afternoon. NCPD said he was in critical but stable condition at a nearby hospital.
