Mike and Virginia O’Leary brought a piece of artwork from 19th century French-born American painter Victor Dubreuil. Dubreuil, a socialist, was famous for his paintings of money. This piece was appraised at $4,000 to $6,000.

Although he typically does not appraise jewelry, this solid gold watch had elements in its chain that dated back to the 1600s, according to him. He wouldn’t attach a dollar value to it until he knew how much gold it contained.

For the fifth year in a row, Antiques Roadshow appraiser and Lynbrook-based auctioneer Philip Weiss lent his expertise to the Philips House Museum for its annual Appraisal Day fundraiser on May 7.
Nearly 200 people from across Long Island came to get their antiques appraised at $10 per item. Some found they were sitting on antiques worth thousands, while most found the family heirloom they brought might have more sentimental value than monetary value.
Members of the village’s historical society said it was the largest- ever turnout for the event, which every year falls on the first Sunday in May. All proceeds go towards the museum.
