Sea Cliff shops spread the love for Valentine’s Day

To commemorate the loveliest day of the month, business owners in the village have dedicated a week to spreading the love by offering deals and discounts to Sea Cliff shoppers. What began as a smaller shopping spree has blossomed, to cover much of Sea Cliff Avenue.

It was Graciela Bustos, owner of Salon Solis, who came up with the idea for Shop Sea Cliff for Valentine’s Day.

“Graciela wanted to do something with a couple of the shops, but once she started going out and talking to other owners, she wanted to extend it to all the other businesses,” said Solis’ makeup artist Nicole Miller. “It kind of just blew up.”

From Feb. 7 to the 17, consumers can shop and support small businesses in the village. They will get pretty pink punch cards at the start of their trip, which they can use to receive special discounts at participating stores.

On Valentine’s Day, Salon Solis will offer free lip demonstrations, hair consultations, and bio-mat sessions. The bio-mat, infused with amethyst crystals, is a warm therapeutic bed designed to ease stress and pain and improve long-term health.

On Saturday, K. DiResta Collective held an early Valentine’s Day celebration, offering champagne chocolate, and a rose with each purchase. This week, shoppers can choose from adorable heart jewelry, new designs, or customize a love token to gift to that special someone. Kathleen DiResta brought in bold, textured gemstone jewelry by Robin Baskin.

At Déjà Vu Consignment, residents can revel in markdowns affordable, vintage items, such as eveningwear, cocktail dresses, evening bags and shoes, and pre-owned fur coats. “Everybody has something a little bit different and everybody’s very supportive,” said owner Nancy Berlangero.

And what’s V-Day without some vino? Mike Amendola of the Village Wine Merchant is offering discounts on bottles of bubbly for shoppers to sip on. “As small, independent merchants we like to work together, so we serve as a community and not only give discounts to customers, but also help all the businesses,” he said. “When you shop local, the people who work in the store know their products intimately, and it’s more about a relationship with our individual customers.”

Bustos was excited to see Sea Cliff residents spread the love during the week. “My vision is just for people to spend time with their friends and family, because Valentine’s is about love and love is about relationships,” she said.
