The St. Agnes Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys donated $2,200 to the Rockville Centre American Legion Post 303 on June 21 after creating and selling patriotic lawn signs in anticipation of Memorial Day.

The signs, which display the American flag and the words “Thank You For Your Service,” helped the group collect the funds, which will go toward helping homeless veterans and others in need at the annual Stand Down at the American Legion Post in Hempstead on July 11.

The event, presented by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency is an outreach program that assists homeless and needy veterans with food and clothing, and also provides services like dental care, haircuts, showers, eye exams and flu shots.

Frank Colon Jr., commander of Post 303, and fellow American Legion member Joseph Scarola also presented certificates to Patrick O’Brien Jr. and Morgan O’Brien, for their help in painting home address numbers on curbs to raise money for veterans.

“It shows the citizens of the United States getting together and supporting their veterans in need,” Colon said of the fundraising. “It’s huge, and especially young people…and the Men and Boys Choir, for them to do that, it’s fantastic.”
