Snow cleanup underway in Malverne, West Hempstead

Posted

Updated: 11 a.m., March 22: As predicted, the latest nor'easter dropped six to 12 inches of snow in the Long Island region, along with freezing temperatures.

Snowfall continued throughout the night in Malverne and West Hempstead, and it tapered off around 9:30 a.m.

Snow plows from Malverne's Department of Public Works have worked their way through the village to start the cleanup process.

This latest storm did cause more havoc for Nassau County high school athletics, which have been greatly impacted by the weather since spring practices began March 7. Today's schedule, which called for 20 non-league games across three sports (softball, girls' lacrosse and boys' lacrosse) were canceled in full. Thursday's schedule, which includes a handful of girls' lacrosse league openers, is also in jeopardy.
