Nassau County police are investigating a swastika that was found etched into a driveway in East Rockaway.

According to Nassau County police, a pedestrian noticed what appeared to be a one-foot by one-foot swastika etched into a driveway apron at 436 Atlantic Ave. The swastika also appears to have been altered with an extra line.

Town of Hempstead Councilman Anthony D’Esposito, a Republican from Island Park, said that it appeared the swastika has been there for about two years. But, he said it is “important that anyone with information comes forward.”

“Our township is home to those who endured the horror of Nazi death camps and many who fought the atrocities of the Nazi regime,” he said. “There is no place in our communities for this symbol of hatred and intolerance.”

Detectives request that anyone with information about the crime contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
