A water main break on Peninsula Boulevard and Olive Drive in Lynbrook on Wednesday caused water pressure issues to homes in the village, along with hundreds of homes in parts of Malverne, East Rockaway, Valley Stream, West Hempstead and the Five Towns.

Rich Kern, the vice president of operations for New York American Water, said that the low water pressure was a direct result of a break in a 24-inch water main on Peninsula Boulevard.

“Crews were immediately dispatched to isolate the leak, and within an hour the system pressure was restored to normal,” Kern said in a statement. “Given the size of pipe and water flowing through it, damage was caused to the roadway and New York American Water worked through the night to ensure road repairs were made before the morning commute.”

Kern thanked crews for working quickly to repair the break and the roads, and expressed his gratitude for residents for their patience and understanding during the outage.
