The theme “work hard, dream big and never give up” was prominent during the Lynbrook Council of PTAs Founders Day celebration on Feb. 6, where 15 people were honored with the PTA Honorary Life Membership Award.
Founders Day is celebrated each year, and commemorates the founding of the National Congress of Mothers, which is the precursor to the modern PTA. The evening, held at Lynbrook High School, included the acknowledgement of individuals who devote their time and efforts to serving the school community. Residents, parents, teachers and one student were honored, and family members of the honorees were in attendance along with district administrators.
The Lynbrook Council of PTAS awarded Christine Keller with the Honorary Life Membership Award. Other recipients included Ellen Restivo, Brian Bowes, Jenny Lengyel, Annie Pasqua, Karen R. Edelstein, Kara Bouley, Mary Beth Stalter, Mariann Pantano, Jessica Ryan, Natasha Mattera, Maria Fasano, Gretchen Hofmann, Danielle Reinert and Rachel Edelstein, who was the lone student recognized at the event.
Founders Day representative Lorianne Quagliozzi was on hand, and members of the PTAs from each school in the district, the Lynbrook Special Education PTA and the Council of PTAs presented their honorees. They praised the award winners for their strengths, dedication and commitment to the Lynbrook school community.
The East Rockaway School District hosted its Founders Day Celebration on Feb. 28 at East Rockaway Junior-Senior High School, and honored those who go above and beyond for the school community. Honorees included Bridget Saporito and Russell Pajer for the high school, Jennifer Hickam and Kristi Boyce for Centre Avenue and Dan Caracciolo and Terry Owen for Rhame Avenue.
