Lynbrook named one of the safest places to live in New York

The National Council for Home Safety and Security recently designated Lynbrook as one of the safest places to live in New York state.

“We are very pleased, but not surprised, of this recognition,” said Mayor Alan Beach in a statement to the Herald.

The council is a trade association comprised of home security professionals across the U.S., which advocates for safe communities and homes with an emphasis on community involvement. Lynbrook was ranked the 24th safest community in New York.

To identify the safest places in the state, the council reviewed the most recent Uniform Crime Statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, along with population data and internal research. The villages and towns were ranked based on the number of reported serious crimes and property crimes — such as burglary, arson, larceny, theft and motor vehicle theft, — per 1,000 people. The variables were then weighted to determine the designations.

“With over 550 villages in New York state, we are proud of this accomplishment,” said Village Trustee Robert Boccio in a release, “which is a testament to the Lynbrook Police Department.”
