NCPD: West Hempstead man arrested in Lynbrook, charged with endangering physically disabled person


A West Hempstead man was arrested in Lynbrook on Wednesday for driving a “special needs” victim while he was carrying marijuana.

According to a release by the Nassau County Police Department, Akiva Goldstein, 47, of West Hempstead, was seen driving a Hyundai northbound on Broadway with a defective brake light. The release said that when detectives pulled Goldstein over, they smelled marijuana and upon searching the car, they found a glass pipe and a plastic bag containing marijuana.

The detectives further discovered that Goldstein was driving a passenger who they called a “special needs person” at the time of the arrest. Reached by phone, police said they could not share the passenger’s name, age or disability. Goldstein was taken into custody without further incident.

Goldstein is charged with endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the second degree, criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree and unlawful possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned on Nov. 8 at First District Court in Hempstead.
