Police: Oceanside dad drove drunk with kids in the car

An Oceanside man was arrested early on July 9 for driving drunk with his two sons in the car after he reportedly had an argument with his wife and smashed her phone earlier in the evening, according to Nassau County police.

Authorities identified the man as Kenneth Kakareko, 50, of Ocean Harbor Drive. He was reportedly seen driving a 2006 Mercury SUV on Lawson Boulevard when police pulled him over and arrested him without incident at 1:30 a.m. on Lawson Boulevard. Officers said Kakareko had glassy eyes, slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on his breath. His two 11-year-old sons were reportedly in the car with him at the time of arrest.

Officers revealed that after an investigation, they had found that earlier in the evening Kakareko had been involved in an argument with his wife and smashed her cell phone.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, third-degree criminal mischief, aggravated unlicensed operation and other Vehicle Traffic Law infractions. He was arraigned on July 9, at First District Court in Hempstead.
