Egg-stravaganza in Valley Stream

The Valley Stream Recreation Department hosted its annual Easter egg hunt on April 7 at Hendrickson Park. After the event was rained out the previous weekend, this time there was sunny skies. Dozens of children participated in the event, and gold and silver egg finders received special prizes.

100 days of school in Valley Stream

Feb. 13 marked the 100th day of school in Valley Stream in the 2011-12 school year. At the Robert W. Carbonaro School in District 24, children marched in a 100 Day parade wearing "100" glasses and hats, and necklaces with 100 fruit loops.

The Valley Stream Association of Girl Scouts held a cookie kick-off at the Green Acres Mall on Jan. 7, selling the popular Thin Mints, Samoas, Do-Si-Dos and other treats in the J.C. Penney Court.

Kindergartners at the Robert W. Carbonaro School celebrated the holidays last Friday afternoon by making gingerbread houses. Many of the children were joined by their parents and siblings.

Valley Stream lights up for Hanukkah

The village held its annual Menorah lighting ceremony Tuesday evening at Valley Stream Station Plaza. Rabbi Yitzchak Goldshmid from the Chabad Outreach Center joined Mayor Ed Fare in the bucket of a Valley Stream fire truck to light the candle for the first night of the Jewish Festival of Lights, which began that day at sundown.

PTAs welcome Santa

The Clear Stream Avenue and Howell Road School PTAs recently hosted their annual Breakfast with Santa events for children and parents. Clear Stream's breakfast was on Dec. 10, and Howell Road held its event on Dec. 17.
