Elise Antonelli has played a vital role in the success of our school district for many years. She has faithfully served on the District 30 school board, guiding our district with a heartfelt mind and heart. As a taxpaying resident of the Village of Valley Stream, I request to be represented properly. This village voluntarily participated in the flood map program and should not accept these flood maps until all residents that are erroneously in the high-risk flood zone are removed. more
Recently we have been made aware that some people are opposed to the village signing off on the new flood maps that will be taking many residents out of the flood zone. more
The Herald’s thoughtful editorial, “No easy answers in high school district” (Feb. 28-March 6), was spot on. The piece correctly notes the Central High School District’s dilemma of being caught in the middle between its obligation to provide the community with an excellent school system while trying to deal with the state’s attempts to solve its own fiscal problems. more

Since the meeting held at Village Hall on Jan. 2, I have chosen to wait patiently for the dust to settle and see where the problem with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s flood maps is situated. Unfortunately, I have not seen certain questions resolved and/or clarifications by the village forthcoming. more
