A successful spring on the soccer field

Posted

While the World Cup was the biggest soccer event going on across the globe last week, it wasn’t the biggest soccer event in Valley Stream.

On June 19, the Valley Stream Soccer Club held its annual trophy ceremony at the John Smith Band Shell, with more than 500 children from the league’s 37 intramural teams receiving awards for the spring 2014 season. The players could be easily identified by the royal blue shirts, shorts and high socks.

A special award was presented to Kevin Shannahan, who has served as a volunteer coach and board member for more than 20 years. His daughter, Shannon, also received the league’s annual scholarship.
